On October 1, Professor Rasoul Yousefpour participated in the Built Environment fireside chat panel at True North Rising, the kick-off event and flagship gathering for the Toronto Climate Week (TOCW), which was co-hosted by TOCW, University of Toronto, and MaRS.

Over 5000 attendees and 136 partner organizations participated in TOCW, making it the largest climate week event hosted by a Canadian city to date.

The Fireside Chat series at True North Rising explored where Canada stands on climate action. Along with Marieke Cloutier, Senior Director, Programs for the Green Municipal Fund at the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, and Alicia Aleksandrowicz, Vice President, Sustainability and Social Impact Strategy, Weber Shandwick, Professor Yousefpour discussed the leadership role of mass timber industry in GTA to offer climate solutions and satisfy the high demands for wood-based building in public and private sectors.

Bringing together policymakers, investors, innovators, and grassroots leaders, TOCW emphasized the urgency of climate action and Toronto’s potential as a climate leader, particularly in bridging a gap between top-down sustainability strategies and bottom-up community action.
