Launch of Groundbreakers, Season 2
Major Grant — Toronto High Containment Facility (THCF)
The facility is the largest containment level 3 lab in Ontario, equipped to allow researchers to safely and securely study high-risk pathogens, including SARS-CoV-2, HIV and the bacterium that causes tuberculosis. THCF is a cornerstone of the Emerging and Pandemic Infections Consortium (EPIC), and the funding is part of an overall $85 million plan to upgrade the 20-year-old facility.
