Medicine by Design

Medicine by Design brings together more than 130 leading researchers at UofT and its affiliated hospitals at the convergence of science, engineering and medicine to advance regenerative medicine discoveries and dramatically improve health outcomes. Created in 2015 with an unprecedented $114-million investment from the federal government’s Canada First Research Excellence Fund (CFREF), Medicine by Design marks a new chapter in Toronto’s long history of global excellence in regenerative medicine, positioning Canada to continue to lead the field for decades to come.

Medicine by Design announces four new team projects

Medicine by Design is expanding its regenerative medicine research portfolio with the addition of four multi-disciplinary, multi-institution projects that will lead to advances in the understanding and treatment of cardiovascular and lung diseases, diabetes and neurological disorders.

Medicine by Design (MbD)

Medicine by Design was created in 2015 with a $114-million investment from the federal government’s Canada First Research Excellence Fund (CFREF) to bring together researchers at U of T and its affiliated hospitals at the convergence of science, engineering and medicine to advance regenerative medicine discoveries. Building on a long-standing partnership, Medicine by Design has transitioned in 2025 to become CCRM’s link to the academic research community.
