MITO2i (Mitochondrial Innovation Initiative)
The Mitochondrial Innovation Initiative (MITO2i) is a network of researchers, clinicians, patients and advocates, academic institutions, non-governmental organizations and industry partners working together to transform our understanding of the role of mitochondria in human health and disease, including both rare and common chronic diseases affecting mood, metabolism, longevity and quality of life. MITO2i is focused on developing infrastructure for collaboration, knowledge integration and coordinated data-sharing to enable a comprehensive, big-picture understanding of this crucial and emerging area of medicine.

Mitochondrial transplantation: powering the revolution in regenerative medicine
MITO2i awarded $23.8M NFRF-T grant to pioneer mitochondrial transplantation therapy — an emerging field that could redefine how the world treats organ failure, chronic inflammation, and degenerative diseases.

SOBP pre-meeting metabolic health in severe mental illness
This event brings together researchers, clinicians, patients, foundations, families, and community members all with a common goal of understanding and treating mental illness through novel approaches.

Powering the Brain: Metabolism and Mental Health
A public talk meant to educate the community on why mitochondria and metabolism has an impact on your mental health and discuss interventions such as diet and nutrition. The importance of metabolism on areas of disease such as bipolar disorder will be discussed and further the findings behind metabolic psychiatry.

ShiftEDIing Gears
The Mitochondrial Innovation Initiative (MITO2i), in collaboration with the Acceleration Consortium (AC), will be hosting a free two-day workshop, designed to foster discussions on equity, diversity, and inclusivity (EDI) in healthcare self-driving labs (SDLs).

MITO2i’s 4th Annual Research Symposium: Advancing Mitochondrial Health
Recordings of the MITO2i 4th Annual Research Symposium presentations and panels, featuring over 30 speakers, are now available.

ISI MITO2i partners with industry to pursue innovative research in mitochondrial gene risk
Mitochondrial Innovation Initiative (MITO2i) and the University of Toronto, alongside NertraMark Corp. and the MitoCanada Foundation have been selected by Mitacs Inc. to conduct research into mitochondrial genetics in neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric diseases. Mitochondria are complex organelles providing crucial energy for our body's cells to work. This level of complexity requires sophisticated models and strong partnerships […]
