Arriving from different corners of Canada and the world, renowned experts shared the stage with early-career researchers to discuss the role of cutting-edge science in advancing athletic excellence, early athlete training and development, the application of wearable tech in novel sports and much more in between.

The TISS Conference will take place September 14 - 15, 2024 at the Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport (University of Toronto St. George Campus).

DSI and TISS partner to seed research to advance wearable health technology

DSI and TISS are pleased to award a Catalyst Grant for research in the Development of Convolutional Neural Network for Motion Artifact Mitigation in Wearable PPG Devices. Co-Led by Professors Daniel Franklin (Institute of Biomedical Engineering) and Chris McIntosh (Department of Medical Biophysics), the project aims to revolutionize athletics and sports medicine by integrating novel sensors with advanced machine learning algorithms.

Joseph Baker appointed professor at KPE and inaugural chair in sport science, data modelling and sport analytics at TISS

The Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education has announced the appointment of Joseph Baker to a tenure stream position at the rank of full professor, effective September 1, 2023. Baker was chosen for the position as a result of the tenure stream position search in the area of sport science and data modelling. Along with his appointment as full professor, Baker will be the inaugural holder of the endowed Tanenbaum chair in sport science, data modelling and sport analytics at U of T’s Tanenbaum Institute for Science in Sport (TISS).

Tanenbaum Institute for Science in Sport (TISS) launches call for Research Accelerator Funding

The Tanenbaum Institute for Science in Sport (TISS) is pleased to announce its inaugural 2023-2024 call for funding support for research project proposals. Project proposals from a wide range of disciplines are welcomed and there is a portion of the funding that is specifically designated for projects related to sports analytics, modeling and data science research within sport.
